Quick update

Things are going around here. Most of my friends here went to the beach for a week, so I have just been hanging around the house. I am leaving for Venezuela on Tuesday, which I am really excited about, because I will get to see Chris, Sandra and Isai again. But for now, I'm just doing some chores around the house. This weekend I am going to the DC United vs. LA Galaxy game in DC with my uncle who lives there. The game is sold out, so it should be awesome. This game has sold out for two reasons:

Reason #1

Reason #2

I hope more people are going because it's a soccer game than to get a long distance sniff of David's hotness. It should be a pretty good game the two teams are rivals, Landon Donovan (LA) is the leading scorer in MLS right now, Luciano Emilio (DC) was last seasons highest scorer, so it should be a great game and a great atmosphere! I guess I'll leave it at that and spare you all my soccer nerd knowledge and ramblings.

A Tribute to Summer part 2: Camping and the great outdoors

Last weekend, my good friend Ryan and I headed to Rainbow Acres on the Mataponi River for a long weekend of enjoying the great outdoors. No plans, just a tent, some fishing poles, a deck of cards and plenty of food to keep the two of us perfectly not busy for 3 days. It was awesome. Just some time to soak in God's creation and have a good time. Here are a few pics from the weekend.

"roughing it"
And now for another tribute to summer: campfires. I love the smell of burning wood, it's a place to hang out and talk for hours making smores or hotdogs or just keeping warm. It also looks pretty sweet when you take a picture of it at night!
30 second exposure - there was a lot of embers!

This is my favorite: just the embers above the fire - 30 seconds again
Well, that's it for now, more summer tributes coming soon!

Turkish Delight

Would you believe that Turkey have come from behind in ANOTHER knock out game. This time the quarterfinals against Croatia. I must say, they don't win easy, but it's fun to watch! I can't help but cheer for Turkey after the amazing games they have been a part of this tournament!

Summertime!

There are certain things that I love about summer. Wearing flip flops all the time, driving with the windows down, all the green and foliage after spring has sprung, twitterpated animals (some of you will get that), but also, oddly enough, I love mowing the grass. It's therapeutic, a bit of a mental retreat for me. It's exercising my God-given dominion over the earth by chopping down every piece of grass to a consistent, unevasive length. The process, as you know is pretty simple: push in straight lines that overlap a bit so you don't miss any grass. I love how simple it is. I take that 1-2 hours of monotonous walking to ponder life, pray, and just muse on things that most other times get drowned out by other happenings during the day. So this post is my tribute to summer part 1: mowing the lawn.

The Beautiful Game

A walk-off grandslam home run in the playoffs, a hail-mary winning touchdown, a half-court game winning shot in the NBA finals. There are many sports moments that will get any persons blood pumping with adrenaline, whether or not their allegiance lies with any team involved in the competition. Sunday, June 15th offered us another intesely dramatic moment when Turkey faced off against the Czech Republic in the 2008 European Championships. 11 men for each side represented their country in a knock out match for the winner to advance to the quarter finals. Three goals in the final 15 minutes (2 in the final 5 minutes) would decide this epic battle.
For the nay-sayers, and for the football (soccer, for you anglos) lovers out there, I have embedded the highlights of one of the most passionate, exciting, and surprising games I have ever seen. I wish I could embed the highlight video for simplicity, but I'll have to settle for giving you the link here. Enjoy!
If you want to see more, check out the television schedule.

Happy Dad's Day!

This Father's Day was a very special one for the Wood household. It's not appropriate to go into detail here, but my parents have acquired two new "daughters," and that made this father's day especially poingnant. I have also been thinking about all of the sacrifices my parents have made for me over the years: my dad got rid of his 280z (fast little sports car) to make room for me, he went to college to support the growing fam, he spent his money and time on things that would benefit us instead of him (with some legitimate exceptions, of course). At this stage in my life, with my toes in the sand, standing on the shores of my adult life and responsibilities, I can really begin to appreciate all the sacrifices my parents have made, and that they were more out of love than obligation.

Memorial Day weekend

I publically ask for forgiveness from all 2 of you that check this blog so far...I have not posted for a week! In my defense, I attempted -- but that's only an excuse (according to Jason Coobs and my father, excuses are unacceptable). So I am working out the kinks in making this blog thing a habit, here's an update...
Last weekend we had LOTS of family at the house for a two day cookout extravaganza that included a lot of steak, chicken, ribs, and one very long nap by yours truly (a big meal will do that to you, especially when your not used to the quality of food). I love food, and this stuff made me quite happy...The best part of the weekend, however, was family, of course. Here are a few family snapshots from the weekend:
Dad showing my cousin Hannah the ropes of grilling
Amy posing with Aunt Laurie
My Cousin Sierra and my Grandparents dog, Pedie

Hannah and Pedie

Amy's boyfriend Jeff, showing off his ball skills while dad grills

The My grandparents are reunited with their daughter that lives 3,000 miles away
Oh, yeah, I was there too (that's for you Jason)

The original Wood Clan Laurie, Dad, Terry, Grandma and Grandpa
I actually got a picture of Uncle Terry smiling! (he smiles, just not usually for the camera)

and the star of the show: Ethan, my awesome nephew -- check out those teeth!

now check those chompers out! He's such a happy kid
This was Memorial Day weekend.
Coming very soon to a blog near you:
Mom gets knee replacement surgery
Braedon's 21st Birthday Bash
Hannah and Sierra move into the Wood household as my new Cousisters (i'll figure out a better name later)
Bobby Gets a job (details tbd)
well, this was a bit therapeutic, and I hope i'm making this readable and not boring you all.
until next time! (not next week)
Bobby
